The impressive speech of Nelson Mandela

Film: Long walk to freedom

Hey there,

the last three English lessons we spent our time with watching the film “Long walk to freedom”. It’s a film about the life story of Nelson Mandela. And there was one scene we liked very much and now we would describe this scene a bit.

It was in 1994 when the situation in South Africa escalated and the black people who fought with Winnie Mandela wanted revenge to the white people but not with talking to them but with violence.

Nelson Mandela fought different. He didn’t use violence he only struggled with demonstrations and talking to the whites. And because he wanted that all people only fight with talking and demonstrating and not with violence he had an amazing speech where he said these things. The scene was filmed very impressive and the music was heroic so it’s a remarkable scene.

Today on the 8th march it is the international women’s day. There women all over the world demonstrate for their rights like the black people did it in the last century.

Maybe you also liked this scene and we are looking forward reading your comments.

Yours,

Verena and Melissa

  1. I agree with you. Mandela's speech was remarkable.

The international women's day should remind us that there is still a lot of women in the world who are not treated in a fair way. Can you give any examples?

    1. Yes, for example in some states of Asia and the Arabic Emirates women aren't allowed to vote or even to drive a car. But also in Austria women aren't equal to men because women don't earn so much money like men also when they are in the same job and mostly only men are in leading positions and only very seldom women. So also Austria could improve the rights for women.
